Sustained Investigation: "Composed Young Adult and Bewildered Child"

Now the moment you all have waited for! So over the length of time of being in AP Art, it had taken me quite a while to decide on what subject matter I wanted to further investigate and create visual representations of.  After some discussion and self-deliberation, I finally decided that I wanted my sustained investigation to be centralized around my six word memoir.  To be in the years of transitioning from a child to a legal adult, it can be a rather difficult time for someone of my age to comprehend and even begin taking steps into such a life style.  It can be such an overlooked idea, yet can be such an individualized experience for every person therefore making it a rather easy and even meticulous subject to delve deeper into.

To understand this subject not only from a personal perspective, but also a broader standpoint, I looked deeper into the meaning of each of the 6 words contained within the memoir...

Composed: 1. Having one's feelings and expression under control; calm.

2. Write of create a work of art.

3. (Of elements) constitute or make up (a whole).

Young Adult:  A person in their teens or early twenties.

Bewildered:  Perplexed and confused, very puzzled; a shift.

Child:  Young human being under the age of puberty or below legal age of majority or maturity.

With the information I gained based on these definitions and a personalized twist, I created the piece you see before you.  This piece although on a small scale, speaks volumes in itself.  To sum it up a little bit, I basically "split" the piece right down the middle to give it a versus feel of adult and childhood life.  The darker left side, containing a distressed adult, is also connected to the more vibrant and colorful right side containing a hopeful child with the world in the palm of his hand.  Also take notice that the head of the adult self, has a galaxy for a brain and a more realistic light source while the child is surrounded by noting butt space and is envisioning it.  Reasons for these small details are to show that we as people are connected to our younger-self and must keep hope even as we "grow up."

See it another way? Let me know! Love talking about how art makes another see the world or how it encompasses another completely different set of ideas!!! (P.S. Go to my contacts page!)
