Split Down the Middle

This piece is called Split Down the Middle.  Now this piece is more personal than anything seeing as how the girl is an old picture of me.  Not the greatest self-portrait I know, don't judge me.

ANYWAYS, this piece contains a lot of mixed media.  My half self-portrait is all done in oil paint.  The top portion containing the brain is a mix of image transfers, gel medium coatings (to make it look glossy), black charcoal, and acrylic paint.  The bottom portion containing the heart is all acrylic and black charcoal.

The meaning behind this work is to show how you can be a child at heart and wired like a computer in your brain. Like I stated previously, this piece is more personal because growing up and even to this day, I am forced to make choices either requiring a child-like or adult-like state of mind, therefore making me be "split down the middle."

Struggles I faced while conquering this piece included the oil portrait seeing how it takes a day or 2 for 1 layer to dry, the image transfers because some I had to flip on the computer before printing them, and just the overall composition and placement of every piece.
